Valentine’s Day or not, get the day off to a good start with this hearty breakfast.



  • 2 slices thick cut bread
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 large Bird Bros eggs


  1. Using a large heart-shaped cookie cutter or a sharp knife, cut out a heart from the centre of each slice of bread.

  2. Melt the butter in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the slices of bread and the heart cut-outs to the pan and cook until slightly toasted.

  3. Turn the slices and cut-outs and carefully break an egg into the centre of each slice. Cover the pan and cook until the egg white is just set and the yolk is cooked to your liking, 3 to 4 minutes.

  4. Carefully transfer a slice and a cut-out to 2 plates and serve immediately.
